This is the movie that I shoot about student’s shopping time. Because the rule is ‘A series of seemingly banal and quotidian spaces that have some common abstract quality’, I use the ‘Shopping’ as the common thing that happened in the different and spaces.

From the original movie ‘Time Code’ we could find that there are four different spaces and happened one same thing, which is ‘earthquake’. The director uses the third perspective and record people’s reaction when the earthquake coming. At first, people are all doing their own things and suddenly, the building start shaking people running and screaming. That is the real reaction when something badly is happen to people. 

About my own movie, I want to create the similar event as the original movie, but I prefer to use some common and simple things. Therefore, I start thinking about the shopping after school or come out home for shopping. Because this is a daily event that almost everyday will happen. Then, I invited other three people to be my actors and record the process of their shopping journal. Turn off the lights, close the door, go down stairs and select the item of what they want to buy. Somebody go out from home and just want to do the shopping and others are come from the school, library. And they are all went to the supermarket and buy something they want.

For the compartment screen, I do the same way as the original director did. I choose to make these four videos show up together on the one big screen, this could be more expressive when audience watching this video. And it is more thematic about ‘A series of seemingly banal and quotidian spaces that have some common abstract quality’. Divide the screen to four could give people a feeling of these thing happens together in the same time but happens at the different spaces. Therefore, I think this is a good idea for me to use and make my own video. 

I also use some city’s scenery to shoot this movie. Such as the entrance of the central station, library of the UTS, and the shopping mall-Woolworth which is near the UTS library.

About the background music, I use a kind of brisk pure music named ‘Point Stars’. The reason that I use this music because it is very soft and cheerful. It likes the atmosphere that when people go shopping and people’s happy mood. Therefore, I think it is suitable for my video of the shopping process.
